Monitoring Systems Developer
Position Description
Infrastructure division has a position within the Production Management Technologies team, the development arm of the Enterprise Production Management department. We focus on infrastructure and application monitoring systems, and build and maintain in-house tools and applications, either standalone or for integration with vendor products.
Initially, the main responsibilities of the team member will be:
• Build and maintain software integrations with IBM Tivoli Netcool, an alert management product. Components include web based tools to enhance the Netcool GUI, rules based alert routing and notification system and configuration GUI, publish/subscribe system for Netcool alerts, etc.
• Build and maintain integration between monitoring agents, application alerting APIs and alert management systems, incident management systems.
• Develop a rules based configuration management system to determine what gets monitored, the thresholds, alert format, to be used and deployed IT-wide
Skills Required
• A good understanding of IT systems, web development, the software development life cycle, code version control and release management practices.
• Proficiency in one or more high level languages such as Java (including Spring Framework), C++, C#
• XML
• SOAP and Webservices experience
• Database modeling skills and overall knowledge of SQL language
• Understanding of the Linux operating system and ability to use software development framework in a Linux environment
• Good oral and written communication skills as there is frequent need to interact with team members in other locations.
• Ability to analyze requirements and propose solutions, actively participate in meetings, both in person and over a phone
• Self-motivated to learn new technologies and specifics of how technology works
Skills Desired
• PERL and Javascript programming skills
• Familiarity with the Development Environment, including VMS, Perforce, VCS
• Experience working on large projects with changing requirements
• ITIL knowledge
