Job description:
Line Cooks prepare a wide variety of foods. They are employed in restaurants, hotels and other institutions.
Cooks perform some of the following duties:
- prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods according to established menus and recipes
- prepare and cook special meals for short order, or specific customer requests
- May assist in scheduling and supervision of kitchen helpers and dishwashers
- May assist in menu and recipe development
- Contributes strong support in general kitchen operations
- May maintain inventory and records of food, costs, supplies and equipment
- May set up and oversee mis-en-place and buffets
- May assist in hiring and training kitchen staff
- Maintains a clean and organized workspace and kitchen throughout all shift
- Is knowledgeable about food safety requirements, keeps a hazard free workspace at all times and fosters continuous education on food safety amongst staff in kitchens
- Liaisons with coworkers, managers, and customers when required professionally to support the overall smooth flow of operation and to increase customer satisfaction
- May assist in planning and cooking for banquets and special requests
Requirements
- Completion of Secondary School is required
- Completion of a college or vocational program in culinary arts, cooking, or restaurant management
Or
- Minimum of 3 year cumulative cooking experience required for this position
- Certification held in Food Safety/ Safe Food Handling is an asset
