Description of Project or Company/Organization:
    Calian is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to contribute your knowledge and experience to the Canadian Forces. The Department of National Defence currently requires the services of a civilian Instructional Designer to focus on the development, maintenance, and enhancement of current and future courseware within the schools at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown.

Job Description:

The Instructional Designer will be responsible for the execution of Courseware Development plans and for the design and development of course material. Working with a multi-disciplinary project team, the Instructional Designer will provide leadership and direction to the overall management of the projects to ensure successful roll-out of projects within timelines, policy guidelines and quality standards.

Additional tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting needs assessments, performance analysis, and cause analysis

  • Perform job task analysis, and specifying performance, education, and learning objectives

  • Define learner characteristics

  • Perform instructional and learning path analysis

  • Prepare learning assessment instruments

  • Identifying and costing instructional and blended learning strategies

  • Specifying instructional strategies, learning content and lesson guidance

  • Produce lesson guidance documentation (design guidance documents and scripted storyboards)

  • Identify training and performance requirements and determine sources of learning materials

  • Make recommendations on the procurement of instructional materials

  • Develop style guides

  • Conduct beta testing and formative evaluations of Learning instructional material to ensure compliance with specified standards and client requirements

  • Prepare instructors for the use of Learning instructional materials into training programs

  • Record development costs of learning instructional materials


Mandatory Qualifications:
    Instructional Designers must meet the following requirements:
  • Must have a college diploma or university degree (in any field)

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in instructional design

  • Must have a minimum of 1 year experience in the instructional design of eLearning products


Special Conditions:

  • All candidates must undergo an ID Screening Assessment test and obtain a 70% average to pass

  • Federal Government security clearance required (Calian will process this on your behalf)
